Review

Value Wins provided proofing to the Betfan platform between 29th April and 9th August 2017 before being admitted as a paid for service. We first reviewed Value Wins a year ago when it delivered some exceptional results. So, 12 months on we take a look at how it’s doing today.

In the 13 months since our previous review (September 2018 to September 2019) the service has generated 257-points profit*, despite seven losing months in that period.

There are just one or two selections most days with occasional “no bet” days. An average of 39 tips per month is the norm*. All selections are win singles and staking is on the scale one to five-points, with the average stake being three-points*.

E-mail advice of the tips is received the evening before racing to ensure the best value is secured on selections. This is usually between 18:00 and 21:30. The e-mail is in the standard Betfan format, so is easy to follow and clear in what bets are to be placed. There is no analysis of the criteria for selections. In addition, the tips are available via the members’ area of the website on the Betfan app.

This is a straightforward service which will succeed or fail on its results. John, the author of Value Wins, says “Over the years I’ve constantly searched for new angles, and “Value Wins” is without doubt the very best I’ve come up with to date.” Let’s see if the results continue to back up this bold claim.

Results – Month 1 (23rd September to 22nd October 2019)

Our review this time around got off to a stuttering start as we recorded a loss of 5.5 points for the period. The cause wasn’t helped by a sequence of 14 consecutive losers in the middle of the month, although three winners in the next 11 runners saw us sitting on a small profit before the month closed out with four more losses and the small deficit.

That said, 5.5 points represents less than 2% drawdown on the bank, and we know historically that far bigger losing months have been part and parcel of the service. With the cost of the subscription taken into account the drawdown is around 3.5% at £10 per point stakes.

The strike rate for the period ended at 11.76% (four winners from 34) and the average odds of those successes was just over 6/1 (7.13). The average odds of all selections in the month had been closer to 8/1 (8.84).

Summary

No real damage done from a small losing month, and the historic profile suggests that almost half of all months for this service end in deficit without stopping the long-term profitability.
