In Month 2 the number of selections dropped to 15. Month 3 was curtailed even further as the weather compounded the selective nature of the tips leaving us with only eight selections.

How Much Time Will I Need To Make This Work?

Value For Money?

Too early to say for definite, but a profit in the first 30-days of the trial and historic results suggest it is. Month 2 saw a loss of 3.5 points, which means that betting at £10 per point would not have covered the cost of membership so far for the two months. A net profit of 6.23 points after deducting the cost of the service, at an average monthly profit of 2.1 points across the review period, leaves this service on the borderline.

Quality Of Customer Service?

Claims that e-mails are answered within 12 hours have not been tested.

As one of the successful candidates from the Punthub stable, this tipster will have already passed the 100-tip trial with flying colours to make it onto the paid for service platform. Launched in December 2016 the historic results show a total profit of 183.43 points in 13 months, an average monthly profit of 15.29 points. There are three losing months in that period, the worst by far being a 20+ points loss in February 2017. The overall return on investment over that period is 20%. The profit and ROI from our first month’s trial are slightly below that (see results below) but not totally out of line.

Tips are received by e-mail on the morning of the race, but not always at the same time. There is not always an e-mail sent to notify that it is a “no selection” day. Those of you that have read previous reviews will know that this is one of my bugbears, especially when the time of e-mails varies, as it leaves you wondering if you’ve missed the day’s tips. The picks are not accompanied by any rationale for the selection, which may or may not be an issue depending on your personal preferences.

Subscription to this service is £35 per month or £85 per quarter (a 19% saving on the monthly fee).

Results – Month 1 (December 6th, 2017 to January 6th ,2018)

The period of the review showed a profit of 5.28 points from a total of 30 bets. The strike rate for winners was 26.67%, and there was also one placed each-way selection. The best run was three consecutive winners and the worst a run of six losers. There was also an unbroken run of five losers to end the month.

The average odds of the selections was 7.88, so the search for value is clearly there. Return on investment for the month of 8.94% is not exceptional, but is positive and better than you would get leaving your money in the bank!

Results – Month 2 (January 7th to February 6th, 2018)

Month 2 saw a loss of 3.5 points from the 15 bets advised. With four winners from the 15 selections, the strike rate was identical to the first month of the trial at 26.67%. There were two consecutive winners to start the month, but this was followed by a string of eight losing bets.

Overall, after two months we are looking at a profit of just 1.78 points at a 2.02% ROI. Month 3 will tell us more as we look for long-term profitability from our tipsters.

Results – Month 3 (February 7th to March 7th 2018)

The final month of the review saw the best performance by far, as just under 15 points profit was generated from only eight selections. This took the overall profit for the three months of the trial to 16.73 points. The ROI was a pleasing 17%, based largely on the impressive 142.46% from Month 3.

Of the eight selections this month, six (75%) were successful, giving an overall strike rate of just shy of 34%. The run of five consecutive winners was the best seen during the trial, whilst the eight straight losses in Month 2 was the worst run seen.

Average odds fell from 7.88 (c.7/1) in Month 1, to 5.19 (c.4/1) in Month 2, and then to 3.73 (c.11/4) in the third and final month. However, this was reflected in the strike rate for this month.

Summary at end of Month 1

Staking £10 per point would have covered the cost of the service for the month and generated a small profit of c.£20. The early signs are encouraging, and it will be interesting to see if months two and three can kick the profit and ROI up to the historic levels to date. If so, then this could be nice little earner for your portfolio.

Summary at end of Month 2

Unfortunately Month 2 didn’t kick on from the promise shown in Month 1, and although there is a tiny profit across the two months of the trial so far, it would not cover the cost of membership for this service at £10 per point.

Summary at end of Month 3

The selective approach of this tipster means there can be periods of inactivity, so this needs to suit your betting style. Although the results of the trial are inconclusive, most of the fundamentals are in place, so it may pay to follow the fortunes of Trackside over a longer period. You can do this via The Tipster League.

I would also like to see a confirmation e-mail everyday when there is no selection to avoid any doubt.

All in all this service earns a 3-star rating from the review period.

This is one of our regular reviews of a tipster, in this instance a horse racing tipster called “Trackside”. Let me know if you have any specific questions.
