Where to Buy:

Top NHL Betting Tips

How Much Money Do I Need to Get Started?

A starting bank of 50-points is recommended by the service.

How Much Money Can I Make?

The website claims average monthly profits of around 16 points since March 2018.

How Much Time Will I Need to Make This Work?

Although placing the tips themselves is straightforward as they are virtually all singles, there can often be 15+ tips in one day depending on the number of matches being played. The other thing to note at the beginning is that different bookmakers use different terminology for the same market, for example, “3-way”, “including the draw” and “without overtime” are three ways of expressing the same outcome. This can slow down the process initially whilst you familiarise yourself with the different terms.

Will I Need Any Equipment to Do This?

A laptop, PC, tablet or smartphone with Internet connectivity and access to a range of online bookmakers’ accounts.

Value for Money?

At just £79 plus VAT for the year (equivalent to £7.90 per month), this service is at the lower end of the market pricing. There are only eight months with tips though as the NHL season runs October to May. I’ll give a final assessment at the conclusion of the three months. This service should probably be judged over the full course of the NHL season as that is what you  are purchasing. However, over the three months of the review we saw a  small profit, followed by a small loss, followed a more substantial loss. The upshot was an overall loss of 21.38 points for the three months, and consequently means I cannot award a VFM pass for the review.

Quality of Customer Service?

Has the backing of the established Betting Gods platform and all of my communication has been answered quickly and efficiently. There is a “live chat” option for contacting them as well. The Betting Gods app is also very useful for ensuring you don’t miss tips or get them late through e-mail delays. A notification is sent when new tips are posted.

As the name suggests, Top NHL Betting Tips (TNHLBT) from Betting Gods provides selections for America’s premier ice hockey tournament, The National Hockey League. As such it operates from the start of the regular season in October to the culmination of the Stanley Cup Finals series in late May/early June.

The 31 teams play a regular season of 82 matches each, so there is plenty of action most days and TNHLBT provides tips on all matches, often more than one on a match. With the top eight teams in each conference going into the play offs (which are all best-of-seven series) the action continues to come thick and fast until the end of the season.

Tips range from one to two-and-a-half point stakes and are virtually all singles, there are very occasional doubles and even more occasional trebles. TNHLBT utilises the money line (straight win including overtime and penalties if needed), the puck line (equivalent to +/- 1.5 Asian handicap), the three-way market (regular time only including the draw) and occasional over/under picks.

The email containing the selections generally arrives between 12:30 and 14:30 each day and as well as the bet details has an extensive list of bookmakers offering the advised odds. The advised odds are generally easily available and there have been numerous occasions when I have found better odds whilst checking.

Although the Betting Gods web page for TNHLBT indicates an average of between 120 and 140 tips per month, this figure is more likely to be 175 to 225 during the regular season and drop off as the play offs begin.

The website claims an average monthly profit of around 16 points since March 2018 from a win rate of 55% and with an ROI (Return on Investment ) of 6.31%. So let’s see if these number stack up during our review.

Results – Month 1 (1st to 28th February 2019)

A steady, if unspectacular, start to the review for Top NHL Betting Tips (TNHLBT). The strike rate of 55.56% for the month is bang in line with the claims on the website. However, this generated a profit of just under four-points, behind the monthly average claimed. This will have been down to the successful tips being at shorter odds, the average winning odds this month being 1.81, which is almost identical to the average odds of all selections for the period (1.86). It will be interesting to get a comparison next month on these average odds.

There were 216 bets in the month, of which 120 won. There were three doubles, and two of those were successful at odds of 2.2 and 2.16.

The month definitely improved towards the end as a cumulative loss of 19.38 points at one stage was tuned around to the final profit of 3.96 points.

The Return on Investment (ROI) for the period was just 1.06% and the ROC (Return on Capital) 7.92%.

Results – Month 2 (1st to 31st March 2019)

The strike rate fell slightly this month to 51.47%, but it was enough to take the final result into a negative of 5.87 points. The fall in the strike rate was compounded by a slight drop in the average odds of the winning selections to 1.79. After two months we now have a small cumulative loss of 1.91 points.

There were significantly more doubles this month, 21 compared to just three last month. Eleven of these were successful, but six of the ten losing doubles were two or two and a half point stakes.

Despite the up and down nature of the results the recommended bank was never seriously troubled.

Results – Month 3 (1st to 30th April 2019)

With the NHL season moving into the play-off phase in April, the number of matches dropped considerably and as a consequence so did the number of tips. This month we saw a total of 83 singles compared to over 200 in each of the previous two months. This drop was expected as I mentioned in the review section above. Of the 83 singles 38 were winners, a strike rate of 45.78% – the lowest of the three months. In addition to the singles, there were 12 doubles, of which five were winners, giving a breakeven position on multiples in the period.

Over the course of the three months of the review we have now seen a loss of 23.29 points in total. The overall strike rate on the singles was 51.91%, whilst the multiples delivered a 5.2 points profit with 18 winners from 37 bets.

Whilst I cannot confirm the accuracy of the results on the Betting Gods website from earlier in the season, they record a profit of just over seven-points since the season started in October. The whole-season result will probably be the fairest reflection of this service. However, with just the remainder of the play-offs and the Stanley Cup series to go, it is still only hovering around breakeven after the cost of the subscription is taken into account.

Summary at End of Month 1

As I said, steady if unspectacular, but a good base to build on for the next two months of the review.

Summary at End of Month 2

Top NHL Betting Tips gives the impression that at some point it is going to catch fire and go on a significant winning run. Maybe it’s the ice that’s stopping that happening! But I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see the final month of the review carry us back into overall profitability.

Summary at End of Month 3

My optimism from last month proved misplaced and in fact we suffered the worst month of the review. There are a lot of selections with this service and even if we take the breakeven position for the season as a whole, that’s a lot of work for little or no return.
