Value for Money?
The jury’s out after a curtailed first month of the review, but promising early signs. Two profitable months have delivered an average monthly profit of 8.47 points, in line with the claims on the service’s web site. At this stage, it’s a “yes”, but let’s wait and see what the final month adds to the equation. Unfortunately, all the good work from the first two months was undone, and some, in the final month of the review. The overall position slipped to a loss of 27.58 points and on that basis I could not award a value for money pass. However, the first two months did hint a some promise and it may be worth taking a longer-term look via The Tipster League to see if Month 3 was just a “blip”.

Quality of Customer Service?

Shane Murphy has been providing his Irish racing tips through the Tipster Street platform since June 2014. After a tough start he has steadied the ship and in 2016 he delivered 236.5 points profit, with a more modest 49.32 following in 2017. There is a full breakdown of the results since June 2014 available on the Tipster Street web site and this is updated regularly.

All tips are advised at two points, either two points to win or one point each-way. It really is as straightforward as that.

Selections cover all forms of racing in Ireland – national hunt, flat turf and flat all-weather. Unfortunately, the weather at the end of February/beginning of March meant we had an 11-day barren spell in the first month of the review. So whilst you can expect on average 50-60 bets per month, we saw only 23. That said, the results were impressive (see below).

Daily tips (including Sundays) are delivered by e-mail between 09:00 and 11:00 on the morning of racing and an e-mail is sent confirming if there are no bets that day. We have seen average odds this month of 3.0 (around 9/4) and a highest at 7.0 (6/1). These odds have been available in more than one place each time I have made checks on them.

There’s not much more to say about this very straightforward service, no complex staking plans, just simple single win and each way selections using a flat stake plan. The real story behind this tipster will be his results.

Results for Month 1 (12th February to 11th March 2018)

As I said above, we only saw 23 selections during the period due to the weather. However, of those, 12 (52.17%) won and a further four each-way selections were placed. This generated a profit of 13.05 points for the first month of the trial.

Not surprisingly at average odds of 3.3 (c. 9/4) there were no significant losing runs, indeed there was just one instance of consecutive losing bets across the month. The longest run of consecutive winners was five and they occurred over two days of racing, a very nice weekend for Shane’s members.

Return on investment was a very healthy 23.38% and return on capital 13.05% based on the recommended starting bank.

Results for Month 2 (12th March to 11th April 2018)

Further profits were added in Month 2 to the tune of 3.89 points. It looked like being a much better return until just one winner in the last seven selections, including the worst losing run seen of four consecutive selections, saw the profit curtailed. The combined profit over the two months now stands at 16.94 points.

The strike rate didn’t quite reach the heights of Month 1, but 34.38% is none too shabby. Overall the strike rate across the two months is now 41.82%.

The average odds of selections in the second month were actually double the first month at a shade over 9/2.

Although the ROI and ROC both dropped in Month 2, the overall returns of 15.4% (Return on Investment ) and 16.94% (Return on Capital) are very healthy indeed.

Results for Month 3 (12th April to 11th May 2018)

My constant reference to long-term performance is no better demonstrated than by Shane Murphy’s third and final month of the review. Sitting on a respectable 17 points profit after two months, Month 3 threw up a loss of 44.52 points to demolish the cumulative profit and leave the overall trial at a loss of 27.58 points. Looking back over the historic results provided on The Tipster Street website there have been several other “dips” in the performance of this service from which it has always recovered. As I mentioned above, you can keep track of the future performance via The Tipster League to see if Month 3 was just a “blip”.

The third month delivered just seven winners from 53 selections, a strike rate of 13.21% compared to 52.17% and 34.38% in the previous months. There were just two short-priced winners and four placed selections from the final 35 bets which saw the month fall from a profit of 6.61 points to a loss of 44.52 points.

Over the course of the three month review we saw 30 winning selections from 108 picks, a strike rate of 27.78%, and average odds per selection of just under 4/1 (4.95)

Summary at End of Month 1

A very encouraging start which supports all of the historic figures for this tipster. As always though, we are looking at long-term performance and hopefully the next two months will see Shane continue this great start.

Summary at End of Month 2

Two very solid months from Shane Murphy, and we wait to see if Month 3 can underline the profitability of this service over the longer term.

Summary at End of Month 3

The promise of the first two months was unfortunately wiped out in Month 3 and the best thing may be a watching brief to see if the long-term upward trend can be re-established for this service. Due to the promise shown in the first two months I am going to award this service a two-star rating based on the review period.
