What Do You Get?

– A downloadable guide to writing short e-books for the Amazon Kindle.

Where To Buy:

Brief Summary:

Short Books Empire by Alessandro Zamboni and Neil Day is a guide to writing short non-fiction Kindle e-books. It lists eight e-book types that should work well in this format.

What’s It All About?

Short Books Empire is a downloadable guide to writing short non-fiction e-books for the Amazon Kindle. It lists eight e-book types that should work well for this purpose.

The idea is to create a steady stream of short e-books that will generate a growing income for you from Amazon fees and royalties.

Do I Need Experience To Make This Work?

No special experience is required, although any knowledge of Kindle publishing will certainly be helpful.

How Much Money Do I Need To Get Started?

You can get started without any other expenditure, although the guide does discuss outsourcing some aspects of the process if you wish.

How Much Money Can I Make?

If you publish an e-book on Kindle, you will receive royalties on sales of up to 70% of the purchase price. You will also receive payments from Amazon when your e-book is borrowed through programmes such as Kindle Unlimited and the Kindle Owners Lending Library.

You are unlikely to make a fortune from a single title (although it has been known), but a successful e-book has the potential to generate a steady income for you for years to come.

How Much Time Will I Need To Make This Work?

The vendors say you should be able to create a short e-book of the type described in this guide in three days or less. You will then need to publish it using Kindle Direct Publishing and wait for payments to start coming in, which could take a month or two. This is not a get-rich-quick opportunity, therefore.

Will I Need Any Equipment To Do This?

Just a computer with an internet connection.

Value For Money?

I would say so.

Does It Live Up To The Claims In The Promotion?

Again, I would say so. But be aware that the guide does not go into great detail about the mechanics of publishing your e-book in the Kindle store. If you are new to Kindle publishing, you may struggle a bit here.

Quality of Customer Service

This is good. In my experience Alessandro responds promptly and helpfully to email queries.

Short Books Empire is sold via the WarriorPlus platform. This is part of the Warrior Online Marketing Forum. You can pay using a credit card or PayPal.

Like JVZoo, WarriorPlus doesn’t offer its own money-back guarantee, so you have to rely on the vendor to fulfil whatever promises they make. I have no reason to think that Alessandro and Neil would fail to honour their money-back guarantee, but it’s still something to bear in mind.

There is just one attempted upsell. This is for something called Fiction Short Books University. As you may gather, this covers writing short fiction e-books for Kindle. Rather than a printed manual, however, what you get is a recording of a two-hour webinar. The price is $17. I decided to pass on this.

Once you have completed your purchase, you should be able to access the manual via the WarriorPlus website. Short Books Empire comes in the form of a 46-page PDF. This is well produced and reasonably well written, with screen-capture illustrations and links to useful resources.

The guide is organised in six main chapters, as follows:

  1. The advantages of short books
  2. Characteristics of a short book
  3. E-book creation
  4. Upload your book on Amazon
  5. Your keyword search
  6. Traffic for your e-book

A little disappointingly, there is no hyperlinked table of contents. Indeed, there is no table of contents at all. Although it’s only a short book, this omission does make it a bit harder to navigate than it ought to be.

As mentioned earlier, the guide reveals eight e-book types that can work well in short form. It wouldn’t be fair to list them all here, but the first is recipe e-books. About a page is devoted to discussing each of the niches. I didn’t find any major surprises, but there was certainly some food for thought (no pun intended).

The manual goes on to discuss how to create your e-book. Like several other Kindle writing products I have reviewed recently, it doesn’t go into any great detail about formatting your e-book. I guess the assumption is that nowadays many people will have done this already. And there is, of course, no shortage of free advice about Kindle formatting on the Internet, e.g. from Amazon themselves at

The manual is much better when it comes to publishing your work using Kindle Direct Publishing, and how to promote it. There is also a useful chapter on keyword research, which the authors say is vital when selecting the keywords and phrases you want associated with your book on Amazon.

Another thing I like about Short Books Empire is the large number of links it contains to free and low-cost resources. These range from keyword research tools to people who will format your book for Kindle if you don’t want to do this yourself.

One other thing you get as a buyer of Short Books Empire is membership of a private Facebook group. You can share ideas and information here with other non-fiction e-book authors, and seek answers to any questions you may have.

Overall, I thought Short Books Empire was a decent product for anyone who likes the idea of making money from short, non-fiction Kindle e-books. There’s nothing stunningly original in it, but it should give you some good ideas (and resources) for getting started in this field. At the modest asking price, you can’t really go too far wrong.
