Review

Before we look at the service in detail a word on the background here. The author was one of the early contributors to MMR and made valuable contributions across the board including being one of the first to cast doubt on Banners Broker when the rest of the world thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. His expertise in the world of marketing helped there and when personal circumstances changed and he needed to generate an income he decided to make his previously free tips into a paid for service.

Interested parties need to email to obtain an information pack which is sent by post and will offer those who return the completed standing order a 1 month free trial before the subscription becomes due. The hope is that you will have generated sufficient profit to cover the subscription when it becomes payable.

The underlying criterion for selections is value and the process is geared to this end. With prices from 4/1 upwards there are likely to be some long losing runs and this is clearly spelled out in the information potential subscribers receive. Any selections are available from a password protected area of the service website and are posted almost religiously at 11am daily. The intention is that these are placed with a Best Odds Guaranteed bookmaker but if you are prepared to forego the possibility of prices rising it is suggested that lacing on Betfair at the price available then should be worthwhile.

Andrew recommends that a 50 point bank should be set aside for the service with each selection staked at 2% of the daily starting balance – win bets only. (On the site he uses a fixed £20 bet as the profitability guide as all users will be likely to have different starting dates and thus bank balances.) It is implied that a starting bank of at least £1,000 is needed to make the service cost effective.

In month 1 of the trial winners at 8/1(twice) and 17/2 on the first 3 days got things off to a great start with a capital profit of 32% achieved. But from there it was a bit of a struggle with a generally southwards trend finishing the month at a loss of 25% of the bank (nearer 28% with Betfair). There were 9 winners from 71 runners and a losing run of 13 was the initial cause.

Not the start any would have hoped for but the outcomes are given on the site daily and if you cannot accept use of the betting bank in the short term then you should probably not be betting. At this stage there is nothing to indicate that a return to past success is not likely and we will update members at the end of September. The service is genuine but does need a strong performance to justify the high end subscription.

Maynards Racing Tips Results

Update 30/9/2017:

A second month of fluctuating fortune with 19 winners from 121 bets giving some initial optimism but the progress was halted at the end of the month after recovering from a losing streak of 19 races and we have finished up with an overall capital loss of 32% at BOG prices in the 2 months. If using Betfair the loss is greater at 43% of the starting bank. In the whole trial we have seen 192 runners with 28 successful (14.6%).

If starting at the same time as our trial you will now have paid 1 subscription and it will be a borderline decision as to whether to continue. There is still the majority of the starting bank to play with and it would not take much to turn things around. Whether your mindset would allow you to try that course is another consideration.

    Thanks Matt and Peter

  2. Spudmeistered says:

I used to follow his tips when they were free, will be interesting to know how they are getting on now that there is a cost per month.

  3. Maynard says:

Thanks to Peter Philipson for starting a review of “Maynards Tips” (subscription service) on the 1st of this month. The timing couldn’t have been better, because I’d just finished a selection system upgrade.

Looking good so far – we’ve made £270 in the last 3 days, when calculated at £20 level stakes (although I advise 2% of previous day’s closing bank).
Anyway, “Best Odds Guaranteed” results have been as follows:

    * * * * * * *

    Thursday 3 August

    Stratford 2.35 Shining Romeo, 4-1
Stratford 3.10 Capsy De Mee, 6-1
    Ffos Las 7.15 Kinglami, 15-2 … 1st 7-1 … £150 profit

    Day’s profit £110

    * * * * * * *

    Wednesday 2 August

    Perth 2.50 Muwalla, 11-4
    Perth 4.35 Pikarnia, 5-1
    Leicester 7.05 Curlew River, 8-1 … 1st 5-1 … £160

    Day’s profit £120

    * * * * * * *

    Tuesday 1 August

Yarmouth 3.25 The Yellow Bus, 13-2
    Yarmouth 5.00 Captain Colby, 8-.1
    Beverley 4.20 Zodiakos, 7-1 … 1st 6-1 … £140 profit
    Beverley 4.55 El Principe, 7-1
    Worcester 6.40 Court King, 9-2
    Perth 7.30 Kilbree Kid, 4-1

    Day’s profit £40

  4. Tripper says:

What’s the profit since the service started charging?

The fact there’s been another tweak suggests it hasn’t been plain sailing.

    • Maynard says:

I’m not getting into figures because, the moment I quote anything, someone will say that it doesn’t agree with THEIR figures. Everyone saw 12 months of real-time results when I was running my blog. Now that Peter Philipson is conducting a review, his figures cannot be disputed when he publishes them at the end of this month.

Furthermore, anyone who wants to start a 30-day free trial now, or at any time in the future, can email me on maynardstips@yahoo.com so, once again, they’ll know their own figures.

Regarding the selection system upgrade, I’m ALWAYS looking for ways to improve performance. If developers didn’t look to improve what already exists, we’d still be using Spectrum ZX computers and driving Model T Fords.

  5. bertie says:

Are the results in for Maynards tipping review it has been just over a month since the start , It started well so hows it doing reviewer or Maynard we have heard nothing, would like to know

  6. blu says:

  7. blu says:

    Maynard gone very quiet?

  8. blu says:

Another bad month…when it was free it was fun.

  9. Maynard says:

Hi all, I’m pleased to say that things are fine now. As always with backing horses, results have been up and down, but overall a nice profit, to the point where I’ve now closed the doors.

I’ve been looking for an additional avenue. Having been fascinated by laying (betting horses to lose) for some time, I *think* I’ve developed a sound method for laying certain favourites. But as we all know, the death-knell of tips and systems is when they “go public”. Which is why I’ll post my lays on this thread at around 11.15am, 7 days a week, until they prove to be solid – or implode.

Of course, this can happen only with the grace of Matt and Agora. If either of them object, naturally I’ll stop posting. In the absence of the ban-hammer, I’ll see you later this morning!

  10. Maynard says:

P.S. It appears that all new posts need to be reviewed by a moderator, because my last few posts have been greeted by the phrase “Your comment is awaiting moderation”. Therefore, although I’ll post around 11.15am, it’s anyone’s guess when (or if) you’ll actually see my posts!

  19. Maynard says:

As you’ve probably noticed, my email address is at the top of this page. I mention it because I’ve had a few emails asking about the laying process, and it’s clear that a few people don’t understand. That’s not a problem – we all have to start somewhere, and I remember being very confused at the beginning. Okay, here goes –

Laying is betting that a horse will LOSE (not come 1st). Ordinary bookmakers don’t accept lay bets, so you have to use a betting exchange such as betfair.com. I lay a maximum of 6 horses a day.

Assuming a £1,000 betting bank, you’d use £50 stakes on your first day – or, to use the correct terminology, use £50 LIABILITIES.

From then on, you’d use 5% of your bank on a daily variable basis. So, if today is unprofitable, tomorrow you’d use 5% of your lower bank per horse. If today is profitable, tomorrow you use 5% of your higher bank per horse.

You’d lay at early prices, which have proved more profitable that Betfair SP. It may be unwise to lay as soon as tips appear, because everyone laying at the same time would increase liabilities and reduce profits. Remember, the LOWER the price at which you lay, the HIGHER your profit.

You’d look at the early odds I post and, if you could get similar odds (or preferably lower), lay there and then. If not, wait until later.

Betfair use decimal odds which include 1 unit for your stake. Therefore 6-4, instead of becoming 1.5, is 2.5 on their site. I post betfair’s odds exactly as shown on their site – without subtracting 1 from their prices.

How to lay for a £50 liability at early odds:

    1. Go to betfair.com and click on their EXCHANGE tab – not their sportsbook. Click on a race time and you’ll see a list of horses. In the middle, one column of figures is on a BLUE background and one column is on a PINK background. Find the horse you want to lay and click its numbers on PINK.

    2. A new panel will appear, in which you’ll see (top right) the word LIABILITY in blue type. Click on that word and a box will appear. In that box type 50 and click the adjacent OK button. The box will vanish and you’ll see the words “LIABILITY: £50” above an orange “Place bets” button. Click that orange button and you’re done.

    3. Repeat the whole process for your next lay.

How to lay at Betfair SP (BSP) if you so choose – not recommended:

Click on Betfair’s small pink SP square (middle-right column). If you can’t see the pink SP square, here’s what to do:

Just above a race’s horses, you’ll see a tick-box with the letters BSP next to it. Tick the box and a new PINK column will appear. PINK = LAY.

    * * * * * * * * * *
That’s your crash-course in laying! If you have a query, please post it here and I’ll do my best to answer.

  20. Maynard says:

    Tuesday 11 Sept – LAY

    Worcester 2.20 Hillary View, 2.88

  21. Maynard says:

    TUESDAY 11 SEPT – result

    Worcester 2.20 Hillary View, 2.88 2nd … £50 div 1.88 = £26.59 less 5% BF commission = we won £25.26

    Day’s profit £25.26

  22. Maynard says:

    WED 12 SEPT – lay:

    Kempton 6.15 Smart Illusion, 3.2

    PROFIT IN 5 DAYS = £41.60 = £8.32 a day

My email address is at the top of this page under “Company Name & Contact Details”.
