Value for Money?

Too early to make a definitive assessment, so I’ll defer until the end of the three months. Tipster Street’s pricing for its services is amongst the most competitive in the market and given what we have seen during the review period, Racing Exchange offers exceptional VFM, with the added bonus of being advised to Betfair SP.

Quality of Customer Service?

Part of the Tipster Street stable of tipsters and benefits from the infrastructure that comes from that. My communication with the owner Neil has always been very professional and timely. When I have used the support link through the website – for other Tipster Street services not this one specifically – I have always received a prompt and helpful response.

Racing Exchange has been operating since January 2017 and joined Tipster Street in May 2018. Since then the results are claimed to show an average monthly profit of 116.26 points. However, a closer examination of the detailed results available on the website show some significant variances from this figure. A large portion of the profits came in one month – June 2018 – which shows a total gain of 911.09 points. Whilst at the other end of the spectrum, October 2018 shows a loss of 159.34 points.

The service itself is based on volume, with an average of over 200 tips per month (7-8 per day). All selections are win singles and placed at Betfair SP (BFSP). This avoids the need to be able to react immediately the email is received to match an advised price. It also ensures that all members will get the same results from following the service. In March, Racing Exchange introduced some selections to place at BFSP in response to a number of long-priced selections going close but not quite winning. This only applies to one or two selections on most days.

As with the profit figure, the average number of tips is also quite volatile around the mean, ranging from 472 down to 70. Recent months have shown an average closer to 350* as the very quiet months came early in the life of the service.

As with all Tipster Street services, the daily email is received between 09:00 and 11:00. The email itself contains the race details, the code (National Hunt, All Weather etc), the race type (Handicap, Non-Handicap etc.) and the selection, with a reminder to place all selections to one-point at BFSP.

Results – Month 1 (26th January to 25th February 2019)

Unfortunately, the first month of the review was abridged somewhat by the loss of racing due to the equine flu scare. This left us with 72 tips for the period, well down on the number anticipated. Of those, 20 were winners to give us a strike rate of 27.78%, which is ahead of the historic average shown on the website of 21%.

The overall profit for the month was 12.43 points. Significantly down on the historic monthly average, even allowing for the curtailed action during the period. The Return on Investment (ROI) was 15.73%, also down on the historic levels.

Although the average BFSP of all sections during the month was 11.15 (just over 10/1), the average SP of the winning selections was closer to 7/2 (4.39).

There was a losing sequence of 13 bets during the month, the longest by far, and a nice winning run of four consecutive selections.

At just £19.95 per month for membership of this service the net returns were not dissimilar to the totals. At £10 per point stakes the net ROI is 12.88% and the net cash profit £104.35, whilst at £50 per point those figures become 15.15% and £601.55.

Results – Month 2 (26th February to 25th March 2019)

This month saw the volume of tips somewhere back close to the norm with 172 tips in total. Although the strike rate was slightly down on last month, at 23.84%, this is still ahead of the average for this tipster. The average BFSP of the winning selections this month was a shade under 4/1 at 4.91, slightly better than the first month. The successful selections also included the first place success as Al Daayen finished in the frame at a place BFSP of 5.47.

Overall, the month generated a profit of 21.46 points at an ROI (Return on Investment) of 11.92%. After two months the overall profit is now 33.89 points at an ROI of 13.08%. After deducting the monthly subscription of £19.95, the net gain to date is £299.00 at £10 per point stakes (11.37% ROI) or £1,654.60 to £50 per point (12.74% ROI).

The month started in great fashion with five winners from the first seven runners, including BFSP returns of 9.6 and 9.57.  However, losing sequences of 19, 14 and 10 during the month kept any further profit growth in check. Although the performance has been good from Racing Exchange, and taking into account the curtailed racing in Month 1, the level of profit is significantly below the monthly average claimed on the website (113.54 points). However, the historic results on the website show April 2017 and June 2018 as both making over 900-points profit each, which will obviously skew the average somewhat.

Results – Month 3 (26th March to 25th April 2019)

Despite the strike rate falling from the previous two months’ levels to 22.95%, still healthy enough, the average odds of the winning selections moved the other way to 6.47, around 1.5 points higher than last month and two-points higher than Month 1. The increased returns from the odds movement more than offset the slight drop in strike rate and we ended the period with a further profit of 47.02 points. The three individually profitable months combined to give a total profit for the review of 80.91 points. It is well worth bearing in mind that these profits are from Betfair SP (BFSP) returns.

The month started slowly with just four winners from 26 selections in the first three days. However, the winners started to arrive after that and included four at double figure odds – Blackhillsofdakota (15.5), Hesslewood (18.38), Reserve Tank (29.06) and Sandret (34.0). This left us sitting on over 75-points profit with two weeks of the period remaining. Unfortunately, those two weeks yielded just four further winners from 44 selections and saw the profit fall back to the final position of 47.02 points.

The month ended with an unbroken run of 12 losers, and there was also a sequence of 18 during that final fortnight as well.

The Return on Investment (ROI) for the three months was 36.48%, which nets down, after taking into account the subscription costs, to 34.37% at £10 per point stakes or 36.03% at £50 per point. The ROC (Return on Capital) was 9.4%, and the net returns 9.01% and 9.32% respectively.

Summary at End of Month 1

A solid start from Racing Exchange, and it will be interesting to see what happens with an uninterrupted month and a more representative volume of tips next time around.

Summary at End of Month 2

Racing Exchange managed to build on the solid start from Month 1 and increased its actual monthly points profit whilst maintaining a good rate of ROI.

Summary at End of Month 3

Three out of three months in profit and a monthly average gain of almost 27 points. The ROI and ROC of 20.85% an 32.36% respectively are impressive enough, but even more so when you consider that this service operates at Betfair SP.
