How Much Money Do I Need to Get Started?

A starting bank of 100-points is recommended by this service.

How Much Money Can I Make?

The website claims 252.96 points profit between April 2018 and May 2019, equivalent to 18-points per month on average.

How Much Time Will I Need to Make This Work?

Although all the selections are win singles this is a very active service with over 200 tips per month on average. It is not unusual to see 12 or more tips on a single day. The quantity of selections will dictate the time required each day, but even with 12 tips it should still only take around 15-minutes maximum.

Will I Need Any Equipment to Do This?

A laptop, PC, tablet or smart phone with internet access and access to a range of online bookmaker accounts is recommended.

Value for Money?

I will defer a comment on this until the conclusion of the review. Based purely on the review period I cannot award a VFM pass for this service.

Quality of Customer Service?

Has the backing and support of the Betfan platform. Requests for support are made via the support ticket system on the website. I have always received a quick and professional response when using the Betfan support system to set up reviews.

Primed Winners has been operating on the Betfan platform since April 2018 and is run by a tipster who describes himself as “a professional race enthusiast”.

The selection process combines analysis, contacts and understanding the placement of horses, taking into account the variants of different courses. Ultimately the service aims to find value horses that have been primed to win. As the author says, “I work relentlessly to assess where a horse should be placed and then watch for it to get its best conditions”.

This is a very active service with well over 200 tips in a normal month. Individual days can easily have 12+ selections, and there are tips most days.

All selections are win singles and the vast majority are staked as one-point. There are occasional two-point win bets, and very rare three-point advised stakes.

The selections are sent by email each morning between 09:30 and 11:00, with 10:00 (give or take five minutes) being the most common time for them to arrive. As well as the email, the tips are available in the members’ area of the website and via the Betfan app. The email is the standard Betfan format, providing all of the relevant information for each selection and including the racing colours of each horse, a nice touch and easy reference if you’re watching the races.

The odds advised on the email are taken from the Betfair exchange at the time the tips are sent. Given that the tips arrive mid-morning, the markets can still be quite immature and subject to fluctuation, making getting the actual quoted odds difficult. However, the movement can work both ways and what you might lose on the roundabout you will gain on the swings. In fact, March and April both produced profits to flat one-point win bets at Betfair SP*.

The Primed Winners page on the Betfan website shows historic profits of 252.96 points between April 2018 and May 2019, an average monthly gain of around 18-points.

Results – Month 1 (30th April to 29th May 2019)

The first day of the review gave us an insight into how active the service can be, with 15 selections on the day. However, it also proved to be the highlight of the first month, with six winners for a daily profit of 15.38 points. Although the second day was a losing one it did include the biggest priced winner of the month – Burford Brown advised at 8.4. The Betfair SP for Burford Brown was actually 15.1.

The month unfortunately tailed away after this start and with two days of the period left was sitting on a loss of 44.45 points. Four winners from seven selections and a profit of 14.6 points in those last two days trimmed the overall loss for the month to 29.85 points.

There were a total of 242 tips in the month, which produced 58 winners, a strike rate of 23.97%. The average advised odds of the selections was 4.37 (a shade under 7/2), whilst the average odds of the winning selections was 3.71 (just under 11/4). The average Betfair SP (BFSP) of all selections was 4.7 and the average BFSP of the winners was 3.77, so the quoted prices are generally achievable even at BFSP.

Results – Month 2 (30th May to 29th June 2019)

There were slightly less tips this month (207 compared to 242) but a very similar strike rate at 23.19%. With the average odds of the winning selections being slightly higher this month at 3.96 (just under 3/1) the loss for the month was kept to a modest 9.13 points. Added to last month’s loss means we have a running deficit of 38.98 points after two months.

The loss was also kept lower by the fact that two out of three five-point maximum bets in the month won. Home Before Dusk (5.4) and True Destiny (3.25) both came towards the end of the month at a time when the loss looked like it could easily be around the 50-point mark.

Results – Month 3 (30th June to 29th July 2019)

The number of tips fell again, to 138 this month, and there seems to be a conscious effort to reign in the volume of selections that are given. Those 138 selections gave rise to 36 winners, a strike rate of 26.09% and the best of the three months. However, the improved strike rate was offset by a fall in the average price of the winning selections to just over 9/4 (3.3) from just under 3/1 (3.96) last month. The result was an almost identical loss to last month of 9.11 points. This gives us an overall loss for the review period of 48.09 points, around half of the starting bank.

There were just two five-point maximum bets in the period and both of those won for a gain of over 14-points. The four-point bets also turned a profit but the “bread and butter” single-point bets lost over 20-points in comparison.

Despite Months 2 and 3 only being modest losses, the overall deficit is even higher when you take into account the cost of the three month’s membership.

Summary at End of Month 1

A very busy service with an average of over eight selections per day, 15 on one day alone. The overall loss wiped out over a quarter of the starting bank and we need to see a return to the previous two months levels* to get the review back on track.

Summary at End of Month 2

A modest loss this month, but we need to see a return to profitability in the third month to redress the balance from Month 1.

Summary at End of Month 3

A steady reduction in the tips month-by-month seems to signal a change of approach to fewer selections generally. Although the last two months were kept to modest levels of loss the overall drawdown of almost 50% of the bank in three months needs to be redressed quickly.
