Value for Money?

At £19 plus VAT per month this service is at the lower end of the tipster pricing spectrum. However, as always, I will wait until the end of the three-months before offering a view on this. Based purely on the three months of the review I cannot award a VFM pass. However, as I stated in the review below, the ten months leading up to this review*, and the first two months of the review, showed very profitable returns. This highlights one of the biggest drawbacks of a short-term review.

Quality of Customer Service?

Has the backing of the established Betting Gods platform and all of my communication has been answered quickly and efficiently. There is a “live chat” option for contacting them as well. The Betting Gods app is also very useful for ensuring you don’t miss tips or get them late through e-mail delays. A notification is sent when new tips are posted.

This service, launched in October 2014 by “Michael” and run as part of the Betting Gods platform, was reviewed about a year ago and my conclusion then was that it would probably be worth keeping an eye on the service over a longer period. Since the end of our previous review until the end of January 2019 Premier Greyhound Tips has had eight out of ten months in profit and a cumulative gain of 109.1 points at an average of just under 11 points per month*. So, here is an updated look at this service.

As part of the Betting Gods platform it benefits from an excellent infrastructure including members’ web area, Betting Gods app and first-class customer service.

Tips are received by e-mail in the afternoon for that evening’s meetings, generally between 13:00 and 16:00. There is an e-mail on days with no bets, and this usually arrives in the morning. The tips e-mail is clearly presented and states the recommended stake, advised odds and the rationale for the selection. The write ups are comprehensive and show a good level of research, form knowledge and race analysis. As well as arriving by e-mail, the tips are available via the mobile app and the members’ area of the web site, access to both of which is provided as part of your membership. An alert has been added which flashes up on both desk tops and mobile devices when tips are posted on the web site, which is a great addition.

Although the Betting Gods’ website declares the historic results to £10 per point stakes, the average stake is around three points per bet. Stakes range from one to five points depending on the strength of the tip. Average odds are around 7/2* and these are generally available.

There have been around 20 bets per month on average* although the Premier Greyhound Tips page on the Betting Gods’ website still states 70-80 tips per month.

Results for Month 1 (12th January to 11th February 2019)

The month was coasting along nicely, despite a run of five losers, as Union Jack scored at Romford at 10/1 (backed one-point each way), and three other winners saw us sitting on over 11-points profit at one stage. However, the curse of the snapshot review struck as another run of five losers up to the end of the period saw 16-points wiped off our profit and an overall loss for the month of 4.87 points recorded.

The strike rate for the first month was 23.53%, with a further placed selection. Average odds of all selections was 5.26 and of winning selections 5.06 (just over 4/1).

Results for Month 2 (12th February to 11th March 2019)

Just as in the previous month, we were coasting along nicely on a cumulative profit of 37.39 points when history repeated itself and we went on a run of seven consecutive losers up to the end of the month! That wiped 20-points off the profit, but thankfully, unlike the previous month, we had already built up enough of a reserve to withstand the poor finish and still end the period with a none too shabby profit of 17.39 points. After two months we are now sitting on 12.52 points of profit despite the losing runs of five (twice) and seven.

The highlight of the month was undoubtedly Millwood Susie’s win at Sunderland at odds of 6/1 (three-point win stake). Although, Riot also won at the same odds to a one-point each way stake. Despite these two, the average odds of the winning selections in the month was down on the previous month at 4.49 (7/2). The strike rate this month stood at 28.57%, which gives us an overall rate of 26.32% across the two months.

The Return on Investment (ROI) this period was 27.17%, which leaves the overall return at 10.61% to date.

Using £10 per point stakes would have generated a net profit (after the cost of membership) of £151.10 in the month, leaving the cumulative gain at a modest £79.60. At £50 per point stakes those returns become £846.70 and £580.40 respectively.

Results for Month 3 (12th March to 11th April 2019)

Just like the previous two months, we got off to the perfect start with the second selection, Rushbrook Rocco, obliging at Romford at 100/30 (4.333) for a 10-point profit. However, this success was followed by a sequence of 20 losing selections (including one double) which wiped 55-points off our profit. Although the run was broken by two winners on the same day and shortly after we concluded the final month with a four-point win bet at 7/2 (4.5), the final loss for the month was 31-points. This left us with an overall loss of 18.48 points across the three months.

With just the four winners in the month the strike rate fell to a disappointing 13.33%. This was further compounded by the average odds of the winning selections also falling, down to 4.02 (just a smidge over 3/1). The strike rate for the review as a whole was 20.59% and the average winning odds were 4.52 (just over 7/2).

The net loss, including the cost of the monthly subscriptions was £253.20 at £10 per point stakes and £992.40 at £50 per point stakes.

Summary at the End of Month 1

Its all in the timing for snap shot reviews and we started part-way through a month which had already accumulated 22-points profit* in the days prior to the start of the review! No real damage done though, and plenty of scope for the next two months to balance the review.

Summary at the End of Month 2

This month’s profit more than offset the small loss that started the review last month, and a repeat in the final month will see an average monthly profit close to that mentioned in the review section above.

Summary at the End of Month 3

The curse of the short-term review strikes again! The disappointing result in the final month means we end the review in a loss. In isolation this looks like a poor performance, but as stated in the review above, “Since the end of our previous review until the end of January 2019 Premier Greyhound Tips has had eight out of ten months in profit and a cumulative gain of 109.1 points at an average of just under 11 points per month*.”
