Play Your Goals Right This Weekend

| October 8, 2010 | Reply

Now that the domestic football season is well underway, form and statistics are becoming more and more important.

Not only can they help you to spot potential match winners but they are also like gold dust when it comes to some of the more specialist markets such as corners, bookings and goals.

Today we’re going to focus on one of these and one that I’ve had an awful lot of success with recently…

The total goals market or, more specifically, the ‘under’ or ‘over 2.5 goals’ market.

Now, I realise statistics are boring…

And usually I couldn’t care less about them.

But when it comes to successful sport’s betting they’re important.

So, like a washed up game show host turned maths teacher, I’m going to try and liven it up a bit…

So sit back, relax and welcome to play your goals right, with your host…

Higher Matt!

It’s the international break this week, so we’re going to focus on the lower leagues of English football, starting with League One.

Our first match up sees Hartlepool play host to Peterborough at Victoria Park.

The monkey hangers – so called after residents hung a monkey, wrongly believed to be a Frenchman – have gone goal crazy at home this season.

Unfortunately for their fans, most of them have been goals conceded, with 15 ‘against’ in just four matches.

This will be all the motivation Peterborough need to go bananas, with the Posh already netting 24 goals in 10 games this term.

On the plus side for Hartlepool, their opponents may be good at finding the back of the net but that comes at a price…

With 16 goals conceded in the League and another three in their midweek cup match, their defence is ripe for the taking.

So, no more monkeying around, this is an easy one…

Higher!!

Next up, we move down a level to League Two and Chesterfield vs. Southend.

The Shrimpers could be set for stormy seas as they head North West to a ground that has produced 23 goals in five games this season – 16 of which have come from the hosts.

Mind you, Southend are none too shabby at finding the net either and have notched six times themselves in their last three away matches.

Nothing fishy about this call…

We’re going higher again!

Lower!!

Staying in League Two, we’re heading south in more ways than one with Barnet vs. Bradford.

Barnet have been leakier than a gammy eye on their travels this season but at home, they have actually looked fairly solid and barring a collapse against Rotherham have conceded just twice in the league.

Meanwhile, Bradford are having a difficult start to the season without conceding too many goals.

Going forward has been the issue and just one of their away games this term has gone over 2.5 goals – their very first match back on August 7th.

This game has the potential to be the biggest minger since Luke Chadwick, so act accordingly and bet…

Lower!!

So, what next?

Well, as Bruce Forsyth always said: “you get nothing for a pair”, so we’ll skip the doubles and head straight for the treble.

Pop over to your bookmaker of choice (the best prices are currently with Boyle Sports and Sky Bet)…

Back ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ in Hartlepool vs. Peterborough and Chesterfield vs. Southend…

And back ‘Under 2.5 Goals’ in Barnet vs. Bradford.

The combined odds should be just over 4/1…

So to avoid finding out what you could have won…

Fix up, look sharp and get on!

Today’s Trivia

Q. Hartlepool’s love affair with monkeys is showing no signs of abating. Which key position within the town is currently held by an ape?

A. The mayor!

Hartlepool FC mascot H’Angus the Monkey was elected mayor in 2002 with the slogan “free bananas for schoolchildren”. H’Angus (otherwise known as Stuart Drummond) still holds the position today.
