Factor Five

How Much Money Do I Need to Get Started?

A starting bank of 100-points is recommended for this service.

How Much Money Can I Make?

The website claims 380-points profit between 16th January 2019 and mid-October at best odds guaranteed. This equates to around 40-points per month average profit or £400 to £10 per point stakes (all bets are flat one-point win singles).

How Much Time Will I Need to Make This Work?

All of the selections are simple one-point win singles and placing the bets should require no more than five minutes of your time each evening, even on the busier days when there can be six, seven or eight selections.

Will I Need Any Equipment to Do This?

As is the norm these days, a PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone with internet connection and access to a range of online bookmakers to allow the best chance of maximising the value more often.

Value for Money?

Any comment here will wait until I have seen the whole three months of the review. Remember, one month neither makes nor breaks a service!

Quality of Customer Service?

I haven’t had cause to contact Bet Social during the review but setting it up was quick and easy, with emails arriving when expected and any questions at the start were quickly and efficiently answered.

Review

Factor Five is the work of Mark Thomas and sits on the relatively new Bet Social platform. The service utilises the early odds the evening before racing to seek out value bets, with selections coming from all codes of British racing.

Mark identifies five factors for success in his betting and it is the fifth of those, experience, which lends itself to the service’s name. We are told that Mark has spent the last 20 years as a professional bettor, having spent 11 years learning the ropes to become a better punter.

All of the selections are straightforward win singles and are staked at a flat one-point per bet. We have seen up to eight selections on a single day and there are usually at least two selections per day. The average number of bets is around four per day or 120-125 per month.

The email arrives the evening before racing, usually between 18:30 and 20:00, although on occasion it may be slightly earlier or later, but always before 21:00. The details on the email are clear and easy to follow, giving the race details, the selection (with racecard number), the advised odds and the bookmakers currently offering those odds.

The odds of the selections tend to fall in the range 4/1 to 20/1, although occasionally may be higher. A look at the historic results spreadsheet suggests the average price is somewhere around 17/2.

Those same historic results show a strike rate of 16.01% and an ROI (return on investment) of 33.94% since 16th January 2019 (based on BOG).

The pricing of the service is very heavily weighted, with two 6-monthly subscriptions (including the reduced first six months) offering a 61% saving over 13 x 28-day subscriptions.

Results – Month 1 (10th November to 9th December 2019)

The review got underway with a nice monthly profit of 24.34 points at an ROI of 20.45%.

The average number of daily tips was 3.7, so a very typical month compared to the historic levels. The 111 runners this month produced 19 winners for a strike rate of 17.12%, once again well in line with the historic figures quoted.

The winners ranged in price from 5/2 (3.5) to 14/1 (15.0) and averaged a bit over 6/1 (7.12). This compares to the range of all selections being 9/4 (3.25) to 16/1 (17.0) with an average of 7.4 (just shy of 13/2).

17th November was undoubtedly the highlight of the month with three winners from four selections and a daily profit of 15-points. On the flip side, there were losing sequences of 17, 10 and eight (twice), although such sequences will be part and parcel of this type of service.

Interestingly, none of the winners this month incurred a Rule 4 deduction which can be a major issue when betting the evening before racing. None of our results include best odds guaranteed (BOG), this is particularly important as the number of bookmakers offering that benefit the evening before racing is reducing almost daily.

The ROI of 20.45% this month nets down after the cost of a monthly subscription to 15.23% at £10 per point stakes or 19.37% at £50 per point.

Results – Month 2 (10th December 2109 to 9th January 2020)

Whilst not hitting last month’s level we still saw a second monthly profit. The 4.75 points this month gives us a cumulative surplus of 29.09 points after two months.

There was a similar number of runners this month compared to last, but a lower strike rate of 13.76%. This keeps the overall strike rate at 15.45%, still very close to the historic average. The wining selections averaged slightly higher than last month at 7.63 (just over 13/2) and after two months the average winning odds is now 7.35. The winning selections this month ranged from 4/1 (5.0) to 14/1 (15.0).

There were losing sequences of nine (twice), 13 , 14 and 15 this month.

The ROI of just over 4% this month was actually around breakeven after deducting the cost of membership at £10 per point stakes. After two months we have an ROI of 12.27% which nets down to 7.38% at £10 per point stakes and 11.26% at £50 per point. The net ROI is after deducting the cost of the subscription fees.

Summary at End of Month 1

A really good start to the review, with a nice profit at a good ROI, and several of the metrics showing close alignment with the historic claims.

Summary at End of Month 2

A second profitable month, albeit lower than last time, which keeps the bank building steadily.
