How Much Money Do I Need to Get Started?

This service advises a 100-point betting bank. This has been ameded on the website to 150-points during the review.

How Much Money Can I Make?

The Tipping Gurus’ website shows a profit of £3,050 to £10 stakes since the service launched on 31st January 2019. This is an average monthly profit of around 50-points and comes at an ROI of 14.72% according to their results.

How Much Time Will I Need to Make This Work?

Depending on the number of selections on the day you shouldn’t be looking at any more than five to 15 minutes to get everything placed.

Will I Need Any Equipment to Do This?

As with most services nowadays you need to be online to get the best prices, and so a laptop, PC, tablet or smartphone with internet connectivity and access to a range of online bookmaker accounts is recommended.

Value for Money?

As always, I will wait until the end of the review to make an assessment. With the loss for the three months of the review exceeding the recommended bank it’s an obvious fail on the VFM front.

Quality of Customer Service?

Tipping Gurus is closely aligned to Tipster Street and shows the same level of customer care and service.

Review

Direct Booms is run by John, a professional gambler for over 10 years, and started on the last day of January 2019. Following a successful period in Tipping Gurus’ trialist area it was added to their paid for services at the end of June 2019.

We are told that Direct Booms has contacts with numerous stables up and down the country and receives information from jockeys, trainers, owners and stable staff that he puts to good use.

Although the number of daily tips varies, the norm is three or four selections each day. There can also be days with no bets and days with five or more selections. Selections are usually singles, either win or each-way, although doubles, Patents, Trixies, forecasts and the like can pop up from time to time.

The staking on single bets is between two and five points, whilst other bets tend to be half or one-point per leg. The average stake is somewhere around 3.5 points.

The daily email notification is sent between 10:00 and 11:00 each morning. The layout of the email is clear and easy to read. The basic information of race details, selection, bet type, stake, advised odds and bookmakers with those prices is provided for each pick. There is a note of the monthly profit or loss to date for the current month and also of the profit since the service launched. Occasionally there may be a further update if late information is received.

According to the Tipping Gurus’ website, Direct Booms has delivered 49.1 points per month average profit at an ROI of 14.72% and with a strike rate of 32.58% since launching in January 2019. We will use these benchmarks to assess the performance during the review.

Results – Month 1 (12th July to 11th August 2019)

A tidy profit of 22.19 points to kick off the review.

There were 113 single bets (excluding non-runners) in the month and they produced 39 winners, a win strike rate of 34.51%. There were a further five placed each-way selections. The average odds of the single winners were 2.95 (just under 2/1), compared to 4.94 (just under 4/1) for all of the single selections. This may go someway to explaining why the strike rate was ahead of the historic average, but the profit was well behind the benchmark.

In addition to the win and each-way singles, there were two doubles (both lost), a winning reverse forecast, a losing Trixie and a Patent that produced a return less than the initial stake with one winner from the three selections.

The return on investment (ROI) in the month was under 5% and after deducting the cost of membership this nets down to 4.18% at £10 per point stakes and 4.73% at £50 per point.

Results – Month 2 (12th August to 11th September 2019)

After a tidy start last month, this month simply fell apart. The strike rate on the singles fell by more than a third to 21.31% and, despite the average winning odds of those selections being slightly higher at 3.12 (just over 2/1), this led to a loss in the month of 178.88 points. After two months we are now sitting on a loss of over 150-points (156.69).

The only multiple this month was a losing double.

It’s difficult to find a positive angle for this month and the only hope is that this type of result proves to be an exception rather a regular occurrence.

The betting bank quoted on the Tipping Gurus’ website of 100-points is clearly insufficient for this service based on this month’s result.

Little else to be said about this month and we wait to see if the final month can redress some of the balance.

Results – Month 3 (12th September to 11th October 2019)

Despite some improvement in the strike rate and the average odds of winners it was still a further loss in the month (35.35 points). After three months we ended with a loss of 192.04 points, almost double the original recommended bank, although the bank has been revised to 150-points on the website. However, the loss for the review period exceeds even the increased recommended bank.

The strike rate on the singles this month was 27.45%, which was very similar to the rate over the three months (27.6%). Meanwhile, the average odds of the winning selections for this period was 3.31 (just over 9/4).

Aside from the singles this month there were three doubles (all lost), three losing Trixies and four forecasts (three reverse and one straight), all of which were unsuccessful.

Summary at End of Month 1

A tidy profit to start the review period and although it was behind the historic average, we are looking at one month in isolation at this point. Plenty to build on in the next two months.

Summary at End of Month 2

A truly ugly month in terms of performance and one which we will want to see redressed, at least to some extent, next month.

Summary at End of Month 3

After a promising first month there has been nothing to recommend this service subsequently, and the overall loss of almost 200-points is virtually double the original recommended starting bank and still in excess of the revised increased amount.
