Back England To Win The World Cup

| March 3, 2011 | Reply

Yes, you heard me correctly and no, I’m not taking the mick…

I really do want you to back England to win the World Cup.

Now, don’t worry, this isn’t football…

And after Wednesday, it certainly isn’t cricket!

Instead, I’ve been looking at rugby union…

That’s right, the one with the public schoolboys and the silly shaped football.

I’ve found what looks to be a cracking price for England and I can guarantee that it won’t be around for long.

So, head over to Paddy Power or Stan James and back Johnny Wilkinson and co to lift the World Cup at 9/1.

Momentum theory

Isn’t it funny how things can change so quickly?

Just a couple of months ago England’s cricketers were conquering the Aussies down under…

Now, they can’t get past Ireland – the cricketing equivalent of Crawley Town (no offence Crawley).

The key here is momentum…

You see, Andrew Strauss’s boys lost theirs after defeat to Australia in the One Day Series…

They stumbled past Holland and picked up a creditable draw against India but eventually, that loss of momentum has caught up with them.

The opposite is true of England’s rugby team.

They have been striving to gain momentum for some time, without quite achieving it…

This in-turn has produced more inconsistent displays than a loving boyfriend’s lie detector results on the Jeremy Kyle show.

However, in recent weeks, head coach Martin Johnson finally seems to have struck upon that winning formula.

This has resulted in victories over Wales, Italy and France and a very real chance of a Grand Slam.

And what happened last time England won a Grand Slam?

They went on to win the rugby World Cup in 2003 which, interestingly, also took part in the southern hemisphere.

Don’t be a sheep

Did you hear that Welsh people have discovered a new use for sheep?

It’s called wool.

Good, now I’ve got that out of my system I can move on.

Don’t be a sheep…

Well, aside from the obvious, it’s because sheep don’t win.

I mean, roughly 98% of sports bettors don’t win, so why would you follow the crowd?!

At the moment the crowd are leaving England alone…

That’s because the common miss-perception at the moment is that England are rubbish at everything…

For example, when do you ever see anyone tip them for success?

Quite frankly, most tipsters don’t have the minerals – they’re too afraid of the “I told you so” punters.

Well, that’s fine by me, because it means that we get a good price – 9/1 to be exact.

And then, when England win a few more matches, the media hype machine clicks into gear and the sheep rush to back them, we will be in the enviable position of being able lay off at a profit or stick to our guns with a value price.

You see, the price will drop – of that I am certain.

Because their next match is against the hapless Scots…

The match after that could seal the Grand Slam…

And their Wold Cup draw is the stuff dreams are made of.

In the group stage they face Argentina, Scotland, Georgia and Romania.

Should they top that (and they really REALLY should) they will more than likely face France…

And should they win that they’ll likely face Australia in the semis.

Both of which are nations that England have a superb recent record against.

Now, I could go on and on and refer to England’s great recent record at World Cups, their potent mix of youth and experience and the fact that they have a World Cup winner in charge but I won’t bore you with all that.

Instead, back England to win the rugby union World Cup at 9/1…

The best prices are currently at Paddy Power and Stan James.
