Two Wimbledon Bets That Could Make Your Wallet Ova-flow

| June 17, 2011 | 8 Replies

Apologies for the god awful pun at the top of this piece but it’s been a while since I’ve sent out any tips and I needed to get it out of my system!

As you may have guessed (or not), this article focuses on Wimbledon and the ladies’ singles, where I’ve picked out two very promising long shots…

First, back Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova each way at 66/1 with Sky Bet, Sporting Bet or Bwin

And then back Daniela Hantuchova each way at 33/1 with Coral, Blue Square or Bet Victor.

Strawberries, cream and a tasty Pavlyuchenkova

You know what, I’m not even sorry for that one – if you don’t like it, lump it!

Now, Pavly (I’ll be here all day if I keep typing it out in full) has shown real signs of improvement in every year of her tennis career to date and the 20 year old Russian is now up to number 14 in the world.

She made the quarter finals of the French this year and was only put out by eventual runner up and defending champion Francesca Schiavone after three tight sets…

What’s more, she showed a penchant for unstoppable winners, the likes of which helped Maria Sharapova to her shock Wimbledon success back in 2004.

Pavly has already made the third round a couple of times here and with the increase in confidence that the French Open will have delivered, I can see her going even deeper into the draw this time around.

In round one she faces a qualifier and there’s very little that looks likely to trouble her until the quarter final stage, where she is set to meet our second selection Hantuchova.

Should she get that far her odds will have fallen significantly, thus providing us with plenty of trading options or the chance to hold fast for a mega money winner.

I’ve got that winning feeling…

My second bet is for a player that has recently discovered that winning feeling…

Daniela Hantuchova.

Now, Daniela has always been a talented player and an attractive one at that…

Something of a rare attribute in women’s tennis…

But until recently she’d been a bit of a choker, often bowing out of tournaments the moment the pressure started to turn up a notch.

However, all of that may just be behind her.

At the French Open she beat world number one Caroline Wozniacki…

Then she reached the final of the Aegon Classic – a Wimbledon warm up tournament…

And now she’s through to the semis of another Wimbledon warm up (the Aegon International), beating French Open champion Li Na and none other than Venus Williams en route.

While 33/1 is a little shorter than I had hoped for (she has come in a fair bit for those victories) it still represents a spot of value…

Even more so when you consider that she has been drawn against a qualifier in the first and second round of Wimbledon.

That will give her ample time to ‘play herself in’ and should she succeed in making the quarters alongside Pavly, we’ll be in the middle of quite a sandwich…

Tasty doesn’t come close!

So, before Wimbledon starts on Monday, head over to Sky Bet, Sporting Bet or Bwin and back Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova each way at 66/1…

And then back Daniela Hantuchova each way at 33/1 with Coral, Blue Square or Bet Victor.

As for the men’s tournament, well that’s simple really isn’t it?

Back Andy Murray to divide the nation for a few days as we all decide whether a Scot is worth our support…

Finally win us all over with a heroic come from behind victory over a no hoper…

Before going on to lose in straight sets in the semi final.

So, anyone for tennis?

will at least you get a bit of a street fighter with ANDY MURRAY rather than your ‘wimpy come on tim’ ex failure henman

Oh I’m not saying for one moment that timmy was any better – he wasn’t. Unfortunately neither of them appear capable of winning when it really matters.

Re: Andy Murray – Corals are offering your money back if he doesn’t make the semis. He’s currently at 6.00. If he gets to the semis that might become tradeable? Especially if one of the others slips up. And if he slips up, nothing lost (but you need to get on before he starts his first match).

  4. Matt Houghton Matt Houghton says:

Certainly not a bad offer if anyone does fancy a bet on Murray.

  5. Austin says:

Andy Murray is playing a cagy game this year stepping up a gear when needed i think he might surprise a few people this year.
Nadal will still take a lot of beating though he’s on fire or is it fire to soon we will see.

  6. Matt Houghton Matt Houghton says:

Well I’ve no doubt at all that he’s a very good player. Unfortunately he has also proved himself to be very much 4th best in the world.

But, you never know. He’s certainly due a win over Nadal.

  7. Pete says:

I took the Murray bet, so now I won’t get my money back! I know what you’re saying about him Matt, but actually his record against Nadal isn’t as bad as many others, including beating him in a grand slam semi (US Open I think?)

It’ll be an interesting day tomorrow … unfortunately I’ll be on No.1 Court !

  8. Matt Houghton Matt Houghton says:

It’s not so much his record against the big players that worries me Pete, more his fragile mental state. However, having said that, I do think this is his best chance since he had that semi against Roddick on the basis that Rafa is carrying an injury.

Who’s playing on number 1 court? Aren’t both semis on centre?
