Transfer Tips

There’s no doubting the big transfer story in the Premiership as the summer transfer window gets into full swing. Tottenham’s player of the year Luka Modric is the subject of a £22m offer from Chelsea and the player has admitted that the move interests him.

Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy immediately responded by insisting that the player wasn’t for sale at any price and now manager Harry Redknapp has backed that statement up by assuring the player that Spurs will be in the transfer market for big names.

The bookmakers have tended to follow those comments and Modric is now a 4/5 favourite to stay at Spurs, while a move to Chelsea will return a best priced bet of 11/10. Keeping an unhappy player may not be Tottenham’s best option however so the Chelsea bet could offer good value.

There is major speculation surrounding many other players and Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez also seems to have an uncertain future.

His current employers have even gone so far as to make him an offer to stay for now and leave on a free transfer at a later date. That leaves the odds on him to stay at Eastlands at a best price of 5/6 and while it seems unlikely that the prolific Argentinean will be sold to another Premiership club there is plenty of interest from abroad. A move to Serie A giants AC Milan will currently return 3/1,
while a transfer to Real Madrid offers 4/1.

Pundits have pointed to the successful season that City enjoyed last term and have suggested that Tevez will be tempted to stay for at least one more year and have a crack at winning the Premiership. With that in mind, 5/6 on the player staying where he is seems like good value.

The protracted transfer of Ashley Young from Aston Villa to Manchester United may finally be sanctioned now that new Villa boss Alex McLeish is set to arrive. This seems to be the safest bet of all the potential summer transfers and that is reflected in a price of 1/50 on him leaving his current employers.

Elsewhere, we have the annual speculation as to whether Cesc Fabregas will be making a return to his boyhood team Barcelona. The player is non-committal on the subject but it seems that talk may finally turn to action this summer and Arsenal are bracing themselves for a bid from the Catalans.

Barcelona are favourites to take Arsenal`s captain away and they can be found at a best price of 4/5 while remaining at the Emirates will return even money. This is very tough to call but after Arsenal endured yet another season without a trophy, this could finally be the time that the player returns to his homeland.

Fabregas’ current team mate Samir Nasri is also the subject of gossip and rumour and a summer move to Manchester United returns a best price of 4/9 while he is a slight favourite to stay at 1/2.
This is also tough to predict and his decision could depend on what happens with Fabregas.

It certainly promises to be a fascinating summer with some interesting moves and no shortage of free footy tips around if you are having a bet on the future of some of these players.
