The Good, The Bad And Carlos Tevez – An Ante-Post Update

| February 8, 2011 | Reply

I was planning on providing you with a tip today but my head’s still spinning after Saturday’s Premier League goal fest and I’m finding it hard to concentrate…

I do have my eyes on a little gem in the Football League but you’ll have to wait till Thursday or Friday I’m afraid…

As they say, all good things come to those who wait.

So, what do I have lined up instead?

Quite simply, an ante-post update in the vague style of a Clint Eastwood film.

Why the random theme?

Well, a) it fits and b) check out this market on Gary Neville’s next job.

My money is definitely on the third from bottom!

It’s all gone Pete Tong

Let’s get the guff out the way first shall we…

Kris Boyd was my ante-post tip for the Championship Golden Boot but unfortunately the man signed for a fistful of dollars has failed to deliver.

Sure, he’s notched six goals for a struggling side but that just aint good enough.

Bothroyd and Graham lead the charts with 15 and Boyd is now out to 66/1.

Next up, Barnsley to finish in the top six…

We backed the Tykes to spring a surprise at 12/1 and at times they’ve looked very capable of doing so, particularly when playing at home.

Unfortunately their away form just hasn’t been up to scratch and when star man Adam Hammill took the 3:10 to Wolverhampton their hopes all but disappeared – they remain stuck on 14/1.

Finally, our bet on Liverpool to finish in the top four…

For Liverpool, this season has been very much a case of the good, the bad and the ugly.

Rather unbelievably given Roy Hodgson’s ill fated tenure, they still have a chance of a top four finish…

However, backing them at the start of the season at 3.3 was possibly not the best approach.

Do you feel lucky punk?

Elsewhere there has been some decidedly better news on the ante-post front, with Tevez, Torres and Rotherham all doing us proud.

Rothers are currently third in League Two, which as it stands would net us a lucky 13 times our stake.

Ronnie Moore’s men have been enjoying a difficult spell of late but picked up a valuable three points on Saturday against fellow promotion hopefuls Crewe.

With star striker Adam Le Fondre still at the club despite deadline day interest from Huddersfield, I am fully expecting Rotherham to finish in the top four and bag us a healthy return on our spread bet.

Our recently struck Golden Boot bets are also performing well, with 5/2 pick Tevez now an 11/10 shot and 25/1 each way chance Torres now just two goals off third place Andy Carroll.

With Berbatov doing nothing to disprove my hit and miss claims and the long lost fifth member of the Wild Bunch, Andy Carroll, currently out injured, we could be due another big profit come May.

All that leaves us with are low risk lay bet Arsenal (1.67 to finish in the top four) and 5/1 relegation prospect Newcastle.

With just a few points separating each side from the respective targets there is plenty of mileage left in these bets.

Sure, they might not be nailed on but with Tottenham’s very own Dirty Harry starting to breathe down the neck of Wenger and Newcastle struggling for strikers (if not goals) both bets are in with a chance.

So then, do you feel lucky?
