Brief Summary:

Kindling from Geoff Shaw is a comprehensive online training course and membership site covering all aspects of making money from writing Kindle e-books. Both fiction and non-fiction are covered.

What’s It All About?

Kindling is a membership site created and run by New Zealander Geoff Shaw. It contains training on all aspects of making money through writing and publishing your own e-books on the Amazon Kindle platform.

As you may know, the Kindle and other e-readers have revolutionized the book publishing scene. Amazon, the world’s biggest online bookstore, now sells more e- books than printed ones. Amazon also allow anyone to upload their own e-books to the Kindle store and collect a royalty of up to 70% on each one sold.

Kindling is intended to provide a complete training and information resource for anyone who wants to take advantage of the Kindle publishing opportunity. It is also regularly updated and expanded. Lifetime access is granted on the payment of a single fee (which is likely to rise in future as the site continues to grow).

Do I Need Experience To Make This Work?

No special experience is needed. As long as you have reasonable written English (you definitely don’t need to be Shakespeare) you can make money as a Kindle author.

How Much Money Do I Need To Get Started?

The only essential cost is the joining fee. Kindling does also recommend some other resources (e.g. voice recognition software for dictating your work), but buying these is not essential.

How Much Money Can I Make?

Authors such as John Locke and Amanda Hocking have become millionaires through Kindle. Obviously, there is no guarantee you will make as much as they have, but it’s not impossible either. In any event, if you follow the training and apply it, there is no reason why you cannot make an increasingly substantial income in this field.

How Much Time Will I Need To Make This Work?

The training is comprehensive and will probably take you some days (at least) to work through. You will then need to plan, research and write your e-books, publish them, and promote them. And then repeat this process with your next e-book, and so on. This is definitely not a get-rich-quick scheme, therefore.

Will I Need Any Equipment To Do This?

Just a computer with an internet connection.

Value For Money?

Yes, if you’re prepared to put some work in.

Does It Live Up To The Claims In The Promotion?

Yes, I would say so.

Quality of Customer Service:

This appears to be good. An email query was answered by Geoff within a couple of hours, even though he is on the other side of the world!

Review

Buying Kindling was straightforward enough. The payment platform is JVZoo, which I have always found trouble-free. They accept PayPal as well as credit and debit cards, which is another positive.

One point to note is that you don’t get instant access to Kindling, as Geoff has to set up your account personally. This was done within a few hours, however, and I got a personal email from Geoff welcoming me to the site, including my log-in details.

The Kindling website itself is simply but clearly set out, with the main menu running down the left of the screen. This gives you access to all sections of the training. There are really too many sections to list in this review, but here are some of the main ones to give you a flavour…

Formatting
Author Training
Fiction Writing
Non-Fiction Romance/Erotica
Episodic Books
Children’s Books
Promotion
Branding
Outsourcing
Recipe
Niche
Tricktion (a course-within-a-course about tricks for writing fiction)

Each of these sections typically has around a dozen sub-sections, which themselves may be anywhere from a single page to five or more. The actual content is a mixture of audio files, videos and written content. It’s all produced by Geoff himself, and definitely has his own personal stamp. You will be well accustomed to his Kiwi accent by the time you’ve studied it all!

I found the training clear and authoritative. Geoff is a successful Kindle author himself (writing under various pen names) and he draws on this experience in the advice and information he provides. Pretty much all aspects of writing, formatting, publishing and promoting your Kindle e-book are covered.

Unusually among Kindle training courses (which tend to focus on nonfiction), Kindling has a lot of content about writing fiction, from short stories to novels. Geoff strongly recommends writing fiction if you want to make money from Kindle, and even if you’ve never considered this before, reading his tips and advice may well inspire you to try your hand at it.

I was also impressed that the content is continuously updated. E-book publishing is a fast-changing field, so it’s good to know that the training is revised (and expanded) to reflect this.

I also like the fact that this is not a monthly membership. Once you have paid the one- off fee, you will have lifetime access to the website, including all future upgrades.

The one thing that disappointed me slightly is that there isn’t a members’ forum. Geoff argues that this would be an unnecessary distraction, and any questions can be dealt with through the site or by emailing him directly. That may be true, but I would still have liked the opportunity to chat with other Kindling buyers and share experiences. Still, there are various free online writing forums (e.g. www.mywriterscircle.com) where you can do this if you like.

Overall, Kindling gets my top recommendation as the most complete and up-to-date training resource on Kindle publishing that I’ve come across. If you’re serious about making money as a Kindle author, paying the one-off fee to join could be a very worthwhile investment.

Highly recommended this course with Geoff Shaw. The course gives you depth information on start a self publishing business.

I can but echo TDENNIS’s comment. The guy is honest and gives – for around £63, a wealth of information on how to publish on Amazon Kindle. There are no ongoing membership payments; once you have paid your £63 you are privy to all the subsequent updates.

He states that you need no other source of Kindle info outside of ‘Kindling’ and I would tend to accept this. I receive an average of 3 Warrior Forum WSO’s a day, some good and some not so good, however; I am increasingly finding that most of these new ‘products/ideas’ are to be found on the ‘Kindling’ website.

Geoff has stopped selling it now ..as of april 2015 over-crowded ..i see on the warrior forum ..so many good reviews on it too ..tsk ..awww

  4. PJbremen says:

Just bought it ,looks like its open again :))

  5. Nick3984 says:

He has a private Facebook page which is part of this package. This is arguably worth more than the training. six and seven figure earners share tips on advertising, email list and outsourcing. The training is great, but the FB group is priceless.
