‘Hutch’ The Cricket For A Tasty Profit

| April 12, 2011 | 2 Replies

By now most of you should be aware of ‘Dutching’…

If not, it’s where you back two or more runners to make an equal profit, no matter which one wins.

Well today I’m going to advise a ‘hutch’…

And don’t worry, it really couldn’t be simpler.

In fact, it’s exactly the same as ‘Dutching’ only this time we weight our potential profit.

It’s a great little technique for when you have a main selection but there’s also a niggling voice in the back of your head telling you to pick a different one.

Instead of ignoring the voice and beating yourself up when it inevitably pips your fancy to the post, you can ‘hutch’ it by placing what is effectively a saver bet…

Big profit if your main selection comes in, little profit if your doubts were well founded.

Today I’m going to use it on that most summery of sports – County Cricket…

Back Somerset to win County Championship Division One at 7/2 with (10/3 BETFRED and Coral)…

And back Yorkshire to win the same competition at 9/2 with , BETFRED or Coral but do it with half your usual stake.

So, if you bet £10 on Somerset bet £5 on Yorkshire, if you bet £20 on Somerset bet £10 on Yorkshire and so on and so forth.

Back the nearly men to turn the tide

Somerset have been the nearly men of County Cricket for some time now (they are one of only four counties never to have won the Championship) but last year really took the biscuit.

They were in pole position going into the final day of the Championship season only to lose out to Notts by virtue of games won (they were level on points)…

They lost the final of the Friends Provident Twenty20 tournament on wickets lost (they were level on runs)…

And they were pipped in the final of the Clydesdale Bank 40 over tournament by just three wickets.

Now, it’d be easy to write them off as bottlers or perennial runners up but I don’t buy that…

Instead, I think they’ll be more determined than ever to sniff that sweet smell of success and with an increasingly strong squad at their disposal they stand every chance.

What’s more, they also have the huge advantage of not losing talisman Marcus Trescothick to international cricket.

That’s because unlike in football, the top domestic leagues don’t take a break during international fixtures, so while other sides are scrabbling around for players, Somerset can continue to call upon their captain.

At 3/1 or bigger Somerset are well worth a bet, so snap up the best priced 7/2 at .

The danger men

For me, the biggest danger to our bet are fellow ranter Geoffrey Boycott’s beloved Yorkshire.

They came close last year with an impressive young side and have also strengthened during the summer.

In addition, they top the early season table after a comfortable nine wicket victory over Worcestershire…

And because of the internationals I’ve just referred to, it’s crucial to get off to a strong start.

In fact, last season’s champions Notts won their first four matches but just three of their remaining 12 and still won the league!

There’s every chance that Yorkshire could do something similar this year and like Somerset, they also have an ex- England star in the ranks in Ryan Sidebottom to bolster the team later on in the season.

With holders Notts looking a weaker side this season, Boycott’s babes (now there’s a disturbing image) should pose the biggest threat to our main pick Somerset.

If you stick to my advice, a Somerset title will rack up three points profit and a Yorkshire win will secure just over a point in profit.

If that sounds good to you (and why wouldn’t it?!) get your hutch on and back Somerset at 7/2 with (10/3 and 3/1 elsewhere)…

Then back Yorkshire at 9/2 with , BETFRED or Coral but do it with half your usual stake.
