Bowl Over The Bookies With This Big Priced Favourite

| January 18, 2011 | 18 Replies

I don’t much care for the mainstream…

I mean sure, I enjoy and appreciate certain aspects of it and I’m certainly not going to be growing dreadlocks or tying myself to a tree any time soon but for me, well, the mainstream can be pretty boring.

Harry Potter – boring…

Manchester United – boring…

Jason Manford – comatose…

X Factor – good god, don’t get me started!

When it comes to sports betting, I’m not too bothered with what I go in for, providing there is a profit to be had…

BUT, when it’s a little under the radar, I enjoy it all the more.

Let me welcome you then, to possibly THE most under the radar sport this side of bog snorkelling – indoor bowls.

For the 99% of you that aren’t in the know, the World Indoor Bowls Championship is currently underway and I’ve spotted a good opportunity to get on the favourite at a tasty price.

To get in on the action, simply head over to Paddy Power or and back Paul Foster at 6/1.

Under the radar value

Now, you might think I’m being diverse with my snooker bets but believe me, there’s nothing under the radar about Ronnie O’Sullivan and co…

Hence why, on the morning of his first round Masters clash, the Rocket was as short as 11/4 to win the entire tournament.

11/4 for the world number nine to win an entire tournament, less than a month after he went out in the first round of the UK Championship and two years since he last won a major title!

What’s more, the bookies could get away with it because people are stupid.

It may be harsh but it’s a fact of life – a large percentage of the betting public are idiots…

Not you obviously – you wouldn’t be here if you were – but the people that back O’Sullivan at such short prices just aren’t using their noggin.

They back him, presumably, because of one thing and one thing only…

Well, fortunately for us, there aint no hype in the world of bowls – not a bit of it.

Which is why we can currently back the favourite at 6/1, despite the fact that he is…

a) World number one.
b) A three time title winner.
c) In the easier half of the draw.
d) Already in the second round (last 16).

So, there’s only one thing for it…

Get on Paul Foster at 6/1 with Paddy Power and .

Enjoy the silence

Ok, so bowls may not have the greatest reputation for breakneck thrills and spine tingling chills but who cares?!

Sure, they may be sponsored by The Co-operative Funeralcare but so what?!

Sometimes a walk in the park can be just as enjoyable as a trip to Alton Towers and when you find a bundle of notes by the swings, you won’t want to be anywhere else.

Paul Foster is that bundle of notes and he is a man on a roll right now.

Having dispatched his first round opponent (last year’s runner up) with consummate ease he said:

“I’ve never ever been so confident going into the singles.”

Impressive stuff from a three times winner and he further boosted his credentials yesterday by winning his first ever World Pairs title with fellow Scot Alex Marshall.

With the second, third and fourth favourites all in the opposite half of the draw to Foster, this really does look to be his title to lose.

So, ignore your preconceptions…

Forget about following the hype…

And back Paul Foster to win the World Indoor Bowls Championship at 6/1 with Paddy Power and .

If you want to get involved (it’s more exciting than you think!) the Championship is being screened on BBC Two.

It runs until Sunday and Foster’s next match is at 7:30 tomorrow night, so make sure you get on before then.

    Hi Matt

Before you posted this bet I was about to bet Mervyn King. Even though he’s not in the form he used to be I think he’s going to be quite dangerous.

The good news is he’s in the other side of the draw to Foster so ive bet them singular and as a double each way to reach the final

  2. Matt Houghton Matt Houghton says:

    Hi Wayne,

Yeah I had King down as the main threat but as you say, he’s on the the other half of the draw which helps.

Hopefully they’ll both make it through to the final. I could do with a bit of a run after the darts and snooker bets!

  3. Wayne says:

    Hi Matt

Yes tell me about it ive never seen as many shocks as the snooker and darts. Hopefully this Mervyn King will do better than the one in the PDC

Just a quick note to say that Paul Foster has won through to the final and will play Alex Marshall tomorrow at 2.00pm.

Marshall is currently a best priced 11/8 (Sporting Bet), so if you were quick and snapped up the 6/1 on Foster, you may want to back Marshall to lock in a profit.

Officially there will be no hedging but the ball (or should that be bowl?!) is very much in your court.

  5. Sian says:

Well done Matt! Paul Allen won! Lovely surprise to check into my account only to find much more money than should have been there.

What can I say? Matt delivers again. Great tip on a sport I’d never consider going near “under my own steam”, so many thanks for that.

As you say, back on form following the weird darts & snooker.

  7. Wayne says:

    Hi Matt

Nice one back on track hopefully and a good win.

I never backed Marshall thought i’d hold on for Foster and glad I did now

  8. Tim says:

Get in there son! Great result with Foster winning the final 🙂 Was nervy in the semi as Foster looked out of it in the tie-break set and managed a great last bowl to win the match. Also looked like the final would go to a tie-break set but Foster pulled a 2 point final end in second set out to draw that set after winning the first and therefore wrapping up the title WOOT WOOT!

  9. Matt Houghton Matt Houghton says:

    Cheers everyone!

It’s certainly nice to get back on track after a dodgy couple of weeks.

I bet those of you that watched it never knew that bowls could be so entertaining!!

  10. petewins57 says:

    BTW Matt, forgot to say…

Many thanks also on the Top Batsmen front. Your system selected both top bats for SA & Pakistan in the ODI series just finished, so a nice little profit with the recommended dutching strategy.

Also currently sitting nicely with the top 2 England bats for the ODIs, so fingers crossed there. I didn’t get on until after the first game, so I decided to miss out on the Aussies for obvious reasons.

  11. phil says:

    Hi Matt

Thanks for the heads up on Foster. I only got on when it was 3’s and not the advised 6’s but it was a great shout. Cheers, Phil

  12. Iain says:

Managed to get on Paul Foster but being bit of a computer phobe I couldn’t negotiate my way to finding out how to put a bet on Green Bay or Fernando Torres. I actually watched on TV as Green Bay fought their way through cursing my inability to place a bet. I need to wisen up, well donme Betting Rant though, here’s to a profitable future

    Thanks Phil/Iain.

Iain, if you’re ever struggling to find a bet, just leave a comment on here or send me an email and I’ll try and send you in the right direction.

I would go into more detail in the newsletters but bookmakers vary to such a degree that it would simply take up too much space.

  14. Darren says:

Great tip for the Bowls. As like most others, this is not exactly an event that I’d give a second thought to (and probably wouldn’t get round to knowing about in the first instance). Got 9/2 and made a great profit. Keep up the great work.

  15. Colin Wilson says:

    Hi Matt

What a great suprise to see my bookie account swell with the win by Paul Foster in the bowls. I missed the 6/1 but managed to get 7/2.

Here’s to more of the same in the coming months.

Well done and thanks very much.

    Cheers Colin
