Bet On A Great Escape In The Europa League Tonight

Der der, der der de der der, de der de der de der de der der, der der der der, de der de der der, der der, der der de der der der ENGLAND!

Yes, I know its St. Paddy’s Day and I should be doing something related to the Emerald Isle but I’ve had my eye on this betting opportunity since last Thursday and it’s just too good to miss.

So, what’s it all about?

Well, as some of you may have guessed from the start of the email, this bet will be settled on a European battleground and involves a very British escape.

The wager…

Back Man City, Liverpool and Rangers to dig themselves out of a hole and qualify for the next round of the Europa League.

The treble pays out at just over 13/1 with Paddy Power.

Home sweet home

Last Thursday made for pretty grim viewing for British football fans.

Man City went down 2-0 in Kiev…

Liverpool lost 1-0 to Braga…

And Rangers, while picking up a respectable 0-0 draw, had all the attacking impetus of Geoffrey Boycott during their stalemate in Eindhoven.

Fortunately, tonight’s return fixtures look set to be much more lively affairs and I think that all three sides can take full advantage of home comforts.

We’ll start with arguably our most obvious selection – Liverpool.

Now, over the last 18 months Liverpool have made a habit of disappointing away before getting over the line back at Anfield and I see no reason why tonight won’t be any different.

Just check out their recent record in Europa League knockout rounds…

March 2010 vs. Lille – lost 1-0 away, won 3-0 at home.

April 2010 vs. Benfica – lost 2-1 away, won 4-1 at home.

Feb 2011 vs. Sparta Prague – drew 0-0 away, won 1-0 at home.

I fully expect Liverpool to progress here and they make up the first part of our treble.

Next up is Rangers…

Legendary Gers boss Walter Smith is set to retire at the end of the season and will want to go out with a bang.

Having dispatched Sporting Lisbon with the last kick of the game in the previous round, the Glaswegians European quest is developing a certain sense of destiny about it and they did their chances no harm with a 0-0 draw in the first leg.

While Rangers have to be wary of the away goal, it’s a well known fact that Scottish clubs in Europe perform infinitely better at home than on their travels and I think they’ll have just enough to progress tonight.

Finally, we have Man City…

Mancini’s men face arguably the toughest task after going down 2-0 in Ukraine last week.

However, that result was harsh on City who created plenty of chances and they are far from out of the running.

Like Liverpool, City drew the first leg of the previous round 0-0 before easing through at Eastlands and while tonight’s task will be trickier, I can see the firepower of Tevez, Dzeko and co being enough to see them through.

So, that makes three…

Liverpool and Rangers get underway at 8pm but the City game is an early kick-off, so make sure you get your bets on by 6pm.

Thriller

Just before we move onto market and bookie details, I thought we’d take a quick look at how last year’s Europa heroes are faring…

Not too well it seems.

Anyway, moving on…

When placing this bet, please remember that we are backing on the teams in question to ‘qualify’ and not to simply win their matches.

This is for two reasons: 1) the odds are better and 2) Rangers can conceivably go through with a draw (albeit on penalties).

So, what bookmaker should we be using?

Well, ideally you’ll all head over to Paddy Power as they are offering best odds (how apt!) on two of the three selections and the treble will pay out at 14.45.

However, as this is a treble you will get pretty decent odds with any bookie, so if you don’t have a Paddy Power account, you may want to go elsewhere.

You may also want to be more conservative and place singles instead of a treble but hey, where’s the fun in that?!

My advice is to head over to Paddy Power and back Man City, Rangers and Liverpool to qualify in a treble…

With the Guinness flowing and a cracking bet at odds of more than 13/1, it could be quite a night!

    Oh dear.

Better up your up game before I ever pay for anything you tout!

  2. Pete says:

Er… Matt, did I misread that? Did you mean a lay treble there? 😉

    Must be the Guinness!

Well, it happens, what can you do?!

To be honest, I’d rather lose all three than just the one – may as well get the bad luck out the way all at once.

Plus, if you backed Big Bucks with a big stake earlier (as advised) you’d still be up for the day.

    Matt,

Yep, I did follow the Big Bucks tip … one of the reasons for the smiley face in my previous comment. (The other reason being that I was only joking – you are one of the few out there who provide profitable info overall. Show me a tipster who wins EVERY time & I’ll show you someone who must be hiding something. Keep up the good work.)
