Another Big Odds Bet For Wimbledon

| June 20, 2011 | 3 Replies

On Friday I advised two big odds bets for the ladies’ singles at Wimbledon – Daniela Hantuchova and Anastasia Pavlychenkova…

Now, I want to back a third double figure fancy – Marion Bartoli.

Bartoli is available at 28/1 with and Sky Bet and like our other two girls, seems to be vastly underrated by the bookies.

After reaching the semi finals of the French Open, ‘maid’ Marion has made a seriously impressive return to grass court tennis, winning the Aegon International last week…

She beat Sam Stosur and Petra Kvitova (fourth favourite for Wimbledon) en route to that title and I see no reason why she can’t maintain that form over the next couple of weeks.

To my eyes, the only reason that she is such big odds is the fact that she is on course to face Serena Williams in the last 16 but while that will undoubtedly be a tough ask, Serena is certainly beatable.

In fact, during the Aegon International, Serena lost to Zvonareva, who in turn lost to Stosur, who in turn lost to Bartoli…

That’s what I call a good form line!

With the ladies’ singles looking infinitely less predictable than the gents, this year’s championship could provide the perfect breeding ground for a surprise winner…

With that in mind get on Marion Bartoli each-way today – she’s currently a best priced 28/1 with and Sky Bet.

Matt, another good call as usual. Shame about what we might call the “limited Ovas”, but Bartoli could do the business. I take your point that she’s only a couple of matches away from landing the e/w part of the deal, but today will be a real toughie against an opponent who is far better than her ranking suggests. Anyway, from looking out of my window at the moment, they may abandon the tennis & play sudden death water polo instead!

    Now that would be entertaining!

It’ll be tough today but she’s been in such good form that I just fancy her to have too much for Lisicki.

As for the other two – Pavly I’ll hold my hands up, she had a mare but Hantuchova played really well and peobably deserved to beat Azarenka. Had she done so she would now, in all likelihood be heavily fancied for a semi final spot which is very annoying.

Well, I followed my words & laid Bartoli (if you see what I mean, ahem 🙂 ) to cover the “ovas” as well, so with one bet open, I have a minuscule profit out of Wimbledon, even if that loses.

On the Azarenka front, she was on the court I was watching when I went last year, & she’s certainly a v good player who should be around for a while yet – just make sure to wear ear defenders. Be interesting to see what happens if this proves to be the beginning of the end for the Williams … although you can never write them off.
