There was disappointment last night as Toulouse took the lead midway through the first half, only to go in at the break behind after conceding twice in the last two minutes. They were unable to respond in the second half, resulting in only our second losing bet in the last ten days.

Having found myself looking at fixtures in Haiti and Libya earlier today, I have officially given up looking for bets before Boxing Day. Fortunately, Boxing Day itself should be a veritable feast of sporting action, especially as the weather finally appears to be improving.
My first tip is for Kauto Star to win the King George for an incredible fifth time. I realise that this isn’t the most imaginative of bets but at 10/11 there is still plenty of value around.
Quite simply, none of the challengers are good enough to beat Kauto:
Second favourite Long Run isn’t the best jumper in the world and looks far too young (5) to win a race of this calibre.
Third favourite Forpadydeplasterer seems to be something of a bridesmaid having finished as runner up in his last seven races. He is also unproven over this trip.
Fourth favourite Nacarat is a Championship horse, while Kauto Star is very much at the top of the Premier League.
Fifth favourite Riverside Theatre has never won a Grade One.
And sixth favourite Sizing Europe was comfortably beaten by Kauto earlier on this season.
Add to that the fact that he produced one of the most impressive performances I’ve ever seen when winning this race by 36 lengths last season and it’s hard to argue against this bet being the very best of the festive period.
Forget Christmas stars, this Star should make it a very happy New Year indeed!
