Advent Tips – December 23rd

There was disappointment last night as Toulouse took the lead midway through the first half, only to go in at the break behind after conceding twice in the last two minutes. They were unable to respond in the second half, resulting in only our second losing bet in the last ten days.

Back Kauto Star to win the King George at Kempton on Boxing Day. This bet is currently a best priced 10/11 with Sporting Bet and William HillWilliam Hill Sports.

Having found myself looking at fixtures in Haiti and Libya earlier today, I have officially given up looking for bets before Boxing Day. Fortunately, Boxing Day itself should be a veritable feast of sporting action, especially as the weather finally appears to be improving.

My first tip is for Kauto Star to win the King George for an incredible fifth time. I realise that this isn’t the most imaginative of bets but at 10/11 there is still plenty of value around.

Quite simply, none of the challengers are good enough to beat Kauto:

Second favourite Long Run isn’t the best jumper in the world and looks far too young (5) to win a race of this calibre.

Third favourite Forpadydeplasterer seems to be something of a bridesmaid having finished as runner up in his last seven races.  He is also unproven over this trip.

Fourth favourite Nacarat is a Championship horse, while Kauto Star is very much at the top of the Premier League.

Fifth favourite Riverside Theatre has never won a Grade One.

And sixth favourite Sizing Europe was comfortably beaten by Kauto earlier on this season.

Add to that the fact that he produced one of the most impressive performances I’ve ever seen when winning this race by 36 lengths last season and it’s hard to argue against this bet being the very best of the festive period.

Forget Christmas stars, this Star should make it a very happy New Year indeed!

Have been following your ‘festive tips’ with interest over the last few weeks and the results have been very impressive! Strange request but please keep an eye on any good football bets over the weekend at odds of EVS or more as I need one for a special account offer. Was thinking Blackpool vs Liverpool, Blackpool (+0.5) @EVS. What do you think?

Anyway, enjoying your Betting Rant e-letters, keep up the good work and Merry Christmas!

    Hi Henry,

    Thank you and Happy Christmas!

It’s not a bad shout but there are two things that worry me about the bet:

    1) Gerrard is back for Liverpool.
    2) Blackpool’s pitch has no undersoil heating and so there is a chance that the match will be called off.

My final Advent tip tomorrow will include a few football bets, so I’ll try and dig one out at evens or greater for you.

  3. Matt Houghton Matt Houghton says:

Just a quick update on the tip above – Boxing Day’s Kempton meeting is subject to an inspection tomorrow, so it may not go ahead.

As such, if you wish to place a bet but haven’t done so already it may be worth waiting until tomorrow evening.

  4. Wayne says:

Merry Xmas Matt and everyone else who listens to your tips and read your emails.

I backed Kauto Star 3 weeks ago so hope its on as I cant see anyone else getting close.

Hope 2011 is the best betting year yet

  5. Matt Houghton Matt Houghton says:

    Here here!

According to the Racing Post, the fixture will be moved to Monday if the course isn’t ready for Boxing Day:

This is good news as it means that the majority of bets should stand.
