Advent Tips – December 11th

| December 11, 2010 | Reply

John Higgins did the business in last night’s semi-final with Mark Allen and is now safely through to the final of the UK Championship. We backed Higgins at 10/1 and I’ve now come up with a clever little saver bet that should hopefully tie in a guaranteed profit.

I’ve also been casting my eye over the TV markets and have picked out a tasty looking ‘specials’ bet. I rarely dip into these markets but hey, it’s Christmas!

December 11th

Back Shaun Murphy to win the UK Championship at 15/8 with Boyle Sports and Paddy Power. This bet is ONLY for people that backed John Higgins outright at the start of the tournament. Stake twice as much on this bet as you did on the Higgins bet – so, if you backed Higgins with £10, back Murphy with £20.

Back Rebecca to finish 3rd in the X Factor at 9/4 with Sky Bet.

Shaun Murphy has looked in good nick all week and I fully expect him to do the business against Mark Williams tonight. Mark, by his own admission, has struggled in his last two matches and has been fortunate to make it this far.

With Higgins already in the final, a Shaun Murphy win tonight will guarantee us a minimum profit of just under three points.

If Higgins wins the final we make an eight point profit. If Murphy wins tonight and goes on to take the final we make just under three points profit.

And now for something completely different…

The X Factor is not a programme I like – in fact I hate it with a passion. But I live with women and living with women inevitibly means sitting in front of the X Factor on a Saturday and Sunday evening.

Now, I’m not really a fan of any of the remaining contestants but as far as I can tell, Rebecca is the best singer. Does that matter?

Not a jot.

This programme ceased to be a serious singing competition when John and Edward made it through their first audition. Right now it’s a popularity contest.

Despite her voice, Rebecca just isn’t the most popular kid in the playground and I can’t see anything changing that between now and the final result.

Matt Cardle has the female vote despite the fact that in my humble opinion he looks like a scruffy bin man and One Direction have the teen vote despite the fact that they are yet another boring boy band. At the other end of the spectrum, Cher has nobodys vote.

Matt has been the favourite throughout the live stages and is just about guaranteed a place in the top two, whereas Cher is a big outsider and is almost guaranteed to finish fourth. Therefore Rebecca will finish 2nd or 3rd and bearing in mind the fact that the show is due a group winner (it’s never happened before), my money’s on a third place finish.

9/4 is plenty generous and as for the Christmas number one – don’t bet on it but do everything you can to prevent the X Factor winner from emerging victorious. Christmassy it weren’t but Rage Against provided us all with a much needed breath of fresh air last year.
